You should use an uncoupling membrane especially with those tiles. Your grout lines are going to crack more than likely. And NEVER use a premixed thinset. Most likely it's polymer modified and thats a BIG no go in a bathroom. But you guys do a great job on everything. Just gotta learn the little things that make or break a job over time

Where I'm from we would run the water sealant up the wall especially behind the toilet and hand basin and the whole shower area and as Doug Dale said the steam room needs to be completely water sealed or you'll have problems later on with timbers rotting! But I do enjoy watching you dudes work with all that enthusiasm and let's have a go at it attitude especially watching real tradies work and learning the trick of the trade from them. Well done. You gotta lay down thinset mortar or some liquid nail under the cement board guys, so there is no movement of the cement board when you walk on the tile, you'll have grout and/or tile cracking issues over time....... 30+ years of tile work, trust me.....

You gotta thinset between subfloor and durock and use thinset on the joints with mesh tape then waterproof. Durock has the instructions link right on the boards...

STOP!!!! Don't put down any tile until you put down the elements for a heated floor! It is exceptional and cheap!

Uhmmm... boys? Aren't you supposed to use those "+"-shaped spacers flat, on the corners/crossing of the tiles? As in, if you have 4 tiles in a square (2 by 2) you place the spacer flat in the middle (and so on and so forth), so all the gaps between your tiles are the same... (also they'll be less fiddly!) Just a thought for next time? (^^,)

I usually put down mastic/cement down and then the cement board. You may have the tiles crack or pop up.

You always do the floor last. Now you'll have to protect the floor from texture mud, paint etc. You are wasting tile putting it under where the vanity will go.

Why are you using pressure treated wood for the curb and walls? Its supposed to be regular 2x4 or 2x6 studs. Overtime PT will shrink and cause warp or tile cracks. No need for PT if its sealed/waterproofed properly.

Premix mortar isn’t really mortar it’s called Mastic and made for doing back splashes onto Sheetrock thin set is a mortar based mix to apply to cement board or mud floated walls or deck muddled floors.

Your transition line under the door looks to be wrong. Looks like your door would be swinging out into the hallway; you want it swinging into the bathroom. So your transition should be toward the bathroom side of the opening not the hallway side. Unless you don’t have the room to swing the door in, but it looks like you do.

I did the same thing you guys did and bought a wet tile saw last year. I realized after I was half way through the job that a manual tile cutter is much better for straight cuts. It's much easier, faster and cleaner.

Do a like a white ceramic Ceil for the end of the tile at the door it would finish it off nice

Find the middle of the room and start from there you get same size cuts when laying the tiles

Harping back to the old days or even Roman mosaics they had hand cutters not fancy motorised lazor cut machines and that guys was real skills, your first machine was more than adequate for the jobs in hand the second machine was pure indulgence, they both have a simliar cutting disk.

Most tilers I know would do the floor last, either by leaving a tile off the wall at the bottom and then piecing it in or just straight on the floor. They would also make all cuts and laid out so when they go to lay the adhesive its all ready to go. :-) Just a thought!

I would have at a minimum did 3 heavy coats of Redgard on that floor. What you guys basically did was just paint the cement board red with that single coat. Hopefully if you have a leak, the single coat membrane hasn't ripped anywhere and the water makes it's way to the plywood. Make sure when you do the showers, do more than one coat. Personally I would have done the tile on the floor last. Working from the top down is better than bottom up, that way when you paint or do any other heavy work, it doesn't scratch or damage your floors which are usually the most expensive and time consuming of a home remodel project. Also, johnbridge.com is an excellent resource i've used in the past for tips and ideas when it comes to tiling.

It is a matter of cost. Using any copyrighted music is very expensive for YouTube content creators, and trying to include such material without permission from the Copyright Owner will result in YT giving the user a warning (called a 'Strike'). Three Strikes and they close your channel income stream down. YT now have some very sophisticated computerised audio tools that can detect infringements immediately, and no excuses are accepted for improper use of audio without owner's consent.

After being in the tile business for many years I can say you guys had better be on top of your game with any 2nd story tile installation. Just one tiny leak anywhere and you are talking very serious problems. Excess moisture from steam is also not a good idea, so you will need a very aggressive vent fan to the outdoors. During my career i almost reached 1 million square feet set. It was fun but hard work.

Tile is looking great but guys, seriously, when you're at the Home Depot try investing is some safety glasses, one chip from that tile into your eye and bye bye eyesight. Small price to pay compared to your vision for life. Love the way its all coming together though.

Y'all need a "Saker Contour Gauge". They duplicate any shape instantly. It's a newer profile gauge that creates an instant template for curved and odd-shaped profiles. It's great for tile, woodwork, or any other type of work that you need to make a template for. Y'all should check them out. There are Youtube videos about them, just search for "Saker Contour Gauge".

@John Stedman Other companies are making them up to like 48-inches. They're just called "contour gauges". So you can get them in 4, 5, 6, 10, 15, 20, and a 48-inch one now. lol. Not sure how well the other brands are but it may be worth giving them a try if a larger one would help you.

Yes the Saker Gauge is very good. We've been using them for construction work and for shaping car bodies. The only disadvantage is the 10" length, because we use many floor tiles that are 12" or more wide, and marble panels which are several feet across. We get around that problem by setting up and fixing a temporary length of aluminium angle on the floor to act as a 'datum', and then run the gauge along it, transferring the shape 10" at a time. Works fine!
