This is definitely something were not used to! However this is a huge learning curve for us and we like to take on new challenges. We have been dreaming about flying for quite some time and now we are living those dreams. We are so close to getting our pilots licenses but first we must get this beast overhauled. Were super happy to share the process with you and cant wait to see where this takes us. Thanks For Watching!!!

The engine is an air cooled aircraft engine there is only an oil radiator there is no coolant system that is why the heat coms from what is know as heater muff!

I love that nothing fazes you guys. This is arguably your most challenging rebuild to date simply because of being so far outside what you normally do. I look foward to seeing you flying it one day. Great idea to have Tommy guiding you along the way. From London, uk

I love the cat, he has to touch everything and inspect it, his new name should be Inspector... Nice video guys, great job it's so fun learning new things. from some of the comments, it always fascinates me how limited some peoples minds are, I think your doing it right, what better way to better understand someting by ripping it apart in the end you'll know a lot more about how things work. The old saying goes, to truly understand something, anything... try changing it

Love the new project, and enthusiasm! Happy you all have a A&P to sign off your work, But as an A&P I don’t see any documentation of anything you are doing. Maybe you’re doing it and not videoing it? Take some time and read the the MM, CM’s ,FAR’s and remember the 43.13 is your friend.

Are you certified to do that type of work? Some if not all of what you do has to be inspected and passed by an FAA inspector. Documentation has to be shown for powerplant and frame work. Both of you must show you have gone to and passed certain schools and classes. Can't sell or fly that thing without it.

The gas is riveted because it's thin aluminium. Welding thin aluminium can induce stress in the part that can lead to cracks over time. A riverted tank only requires periodic resealing, which is safer in the long run.

Bladder tanks aren’t going to increase your flight time, in fact it will decrease as they’re smaller. But on the plus side they are safer after a crash (less likely to explode). So you’ll have less fuel and hence can’t go as far, but you’ll be safer in a crash and your useful load will increase marginally (there’s only so much you can fit in these helicopters).

Hey guys. I´m a big Fan from germany and as long as you were working with cars I was fine with your way of maintenance. But as an licensed aircraft mechanic of the german Navy I need to warn you. Pleas dont use electric tools like your cordless screwdriver or not explosive protected flshlights when working on Aircrafts, especially on the fuel system. It sometimes sounds overprotective, but there is a reason why airbus, lockheed and other aircraft builder have such warnings and cautions in theire aircraft manintenance manuals. And pleas always make sure you cover every opened line (hydraulic/fuel/electric,etc.) so you dont get any contamination.

5 місяців tagasiI.R. Wayright
You likely won't find anything wrong with the engine. In that application it only uses 137 horsepower out of the 150 it makes. We, at the factory, were usually able to reuse the camshaft. And that is one of the first things to go in an 0-320.
5 місяців tagasiEl Niño
One reason that airplanes are manufactured with riveted joints instead of welded joints is because the aluminum materials used in their construction isn’t tolerant of heat. The greatest benefit of using riveted joints in an aircraft is that they are stronger and more durable than welded joints. Riveted joints are also easier to inspect than welded joints.

I'm getting my private rotorwing license right now (checkride is in 10 days!) so seeing how this helicopter is assembled is very interesting. It's a simple design, but sadly nothing in the aviation world is "cheap". A rebuild on the R44 (4 seat version of this) from the Robinson factory costs $250,000 and is a major factor in the price of used helicopters. Robinson and the FAA require that they must be rebuilt after 12 years or 2,200 hours. Also for anyone interested, getting your helicopter (rotorwing) private pilots license costs between 15 and $20,000. Most of that is renting the helicopter itself, about $250 per hour, not including the instructor, so closer to $300/hour.
5 місяців tagasiGregg KUZILA
You can't legally rebuild helicopters unless you have an A&P license and after the A&P license mechanic finishing the annual Victor needs to sign off before you can fly the damn thing

16:44 the rotor brake you were talking about is used to stop the blades minimum 30 seconds after you have cut the fuel to the engine. The switch is connected to the ignition circuit and prevents you from starting if you have accidentally left the rotor brake chain in the 'pulled' position. I fly R22's and hang out with the mechanics who rebuild these in the hanger, so if you have any questions let me know.

There are way too many “mechanics” on here. You guys just stick to what the manuals and your AMO say and you will be fine. Some of the suggestions here will end up in disaster and/or cost you extra for no reason as most of those small cotter pins, bolts and nuts are re-usable. I own 3 of these and have many years of experience maintaining them financially. Enjoy these awesome and reliable helicopters.

Weird thing to notice but...The shelves you bought can be put together different to make MORE shelves. instead of making 2 shelves. you can link em together for 1 big 3 end unit (slightly more stable) shelf. or buy a few more cross pieces for a REAL long shelf. sorry if this is a repeat comment but it was bugging me and I love learning more efficient ways to do stuffs. If you worry about tagging em with all your toys, you can drop some anchors into the cement and lag bolt em down but that's probably overkill in your application. I love your channel guys keep up the creative fun ideas. I'm a dreamer and thanks to guys like you and other Youtubers like Alex Steele I'm becoming more of a do'er. Giter DUN!
